The Spark that Started It All
Women On IT began with one woman’s refusal to accept the status quo.
When our founder, Beata Young, relocated from Poland to Malta, she was struck by a frustrating contradiction: she met incredible, talented women in technology every day, yet at every major tech event, we remained a "tiny minority."
After years of facilitating Geek Girls Carrots and working with the eSkills Malta Women in Tech focus group, Beata realized that talking about the "gender ratio" wasn't enough. Change wasn't happening fast enough—so she took matters into her own hands. She founded this community to bring together women, startups, and allies into a space that didn't just discuss inclusion, but lived it.
The Torch is Passed: A New Generation
Beata’s mission was always about more than just one person; it was about a movement. Today, as she watches our progress from a distance, a new generation of mentees and leaders has stepped up to carry her torch.
We are the beneficiaries of her "hustle and empathy," and we are committed to growing the vibrant, inclusive forum she built. We aren't just maintaining her vision—we are scaling it for the future.
Why We Are Here
We believe that the tech landscape is better when it's diverse. Our goal is to promote the visibility of women and underrepresented groups across technology and business.
At the core of everything we do is a commitment to turning inspiration into impact. We focus on Visibility by showcasing the achievements of female leaders, ensuring the next generation has the role models they need to see their own potential. But we go beyond just talk; we prioritize Action through our livestream podcasts and exclusive interviews with groundbreaking Women in Tech authors and startup founders. As a Community, we serve as a grassroots forum where women in tech and startups—alongside the men who support them—can find a true sense of belonging. Through it all, we lead with Empathy, staying true to our founder’s original M.O. of bringing 'heart to the hustle' and ensuring that every woman feels empowered to succeed.
